Direct Mail - Stop and think

Direct Mail Spending - Marketing Cartoon

There haven’t been too many posts for the last few weeks. That has been due to the fact that we are working on a new course - all will be revealed in a few weeks, but hopefully it will be great news for those people who want to find out more about social media, and blogging.

This post is just a quick reminder about making sure that your direct mail is pushing all the right buttons. All we would ask you to do is next time you develop a direct mail piece, stop and think, put yourself in the place of the person receiving it. Ask yourself the question

“If I received this, what would I do”?

This is great way of making sure that your direct mail will get results. You have to be really honest with yourself, and answer some basic questions like, “would I take any action?”, “would I even read it?”, “would the headline grab my attention”, “would I be intrigued by what was on offer”, “is it easy to contact you”.

If your first thoughts are to file it under bin, then you need to rethink.

Your direct mail should grab attention, make the recipient want to find out more and then there should be a massive call to action - make them an irresistible offer that makes them want to get in touch with you.

You could even try mailing yourself the direct mail and opening it at your office or home address and see how you feel when you open it. Does it make you want to get in touch with you :-)

If not then think again.

I think that is a great idea regarding sending yourself a test mailer. Many mailers do not even phyisically stand out let along stand out when read. If they don’t stick out amoongst a pile of other mail, you are missing a trick from the start.

    Hi Jen
Thanks for your comment - it really does make a difference if you package your mailer up and send it to yourself in the post. You can see what it looks like once it has been through all the sorting machines and also how it feels to open it. We recommend this for all our clients.
