Blogs are good for SEO
Blogs are great ways of helping to increase your rankings in the search engines and can really help with your search engine optimisation (SEO) plans. We have definitely seen an increase in our Google rankings since we started this blog in November 2008, and although it takes time it is now starting to make a difference. David Leonhardt’s SEO Marketing Express Blog puts it quite succinctly; as your blog is constantly growing, the search engines have fresh content to index regularly, you can develop lots of internal links and what’s more you can start to build links by using a trackback feature, and refer to another blog, just as I am doing here.
Just remember to include your key words and phrases, just like you woud do on your main website and ensure that you develop great content that the search engines and humans will like. We use the Wordpress All In One SEO Pack on our blog to make sure that each and every blog post is optimised. It is a great little widget all you have to do is include a title, description and keywords and phrases for each post you write and it does the rest.

I completely agree with this post. Google looks at how frequent the content on the website grows and using a blog to grow the content is a great way to do this.
Focusing the content around the key phrases that the rest of the site is optimised is a top tip. Also ensuring that the blog is integrated through internal linking will help boost the optimisation too.

Thanks Charlotte for your comment. It does take time, but we are slowly finding our search engine rankings rising and getting a few more comments. We just need to work a little more on trackbacking to the bigger blogs to help with rankings as well.
