Headlines matter now more than they ever did

I have just read a really short but interesting article on Seth Godin’s blog - if you haven’t visited this then take a look at http://sethgodin.typepad.com/. He really is a great marketing Guru and has some original and thought provoking ideas. It was one of his latest posts about the importance of headlines that I thought was worth commenting on.

In marketing we are always so keen to write about our fantastic product or service, sometimes we don’t stop to think what our product or service really does for the customer. Headlines sell newspapers and the best marketeers know that by using this approach in their marketing they really can win hearts and minds.

As Seth points out ” The great direct mail copywriter Joe Sugarman taught me this. Every ad had a headline, and so did every paragraph. If the paragraph didn’t warrant a headline, it didn’t go in the ad.”

So before you write your next piece of marketing content, think how you can gain attention with a really great headline that gives the benefits of your product or service in one simple sentence.
